It’s already become commonplace to compare the war the U.S is waging in Iraq with the U.S. war in Vietnam. But, looking from Moscow, it seems that a more accurate comparison is the Soviet war in Afghanistan in the 1980s - the war precipitated the collapse of the Soviet Union. Can the Iraq war become similarly fateful for the U.S. - the last remaining superpower?
