Honestly, I sometimes wonder if we need news media at all to inform us of Russia's actions. This was such a predictable development.
It looks as though we may have to rely on Russian human rights groups unofficial monitoring of what is going on there - not that that is any bad thing perhaps.

There is evidence that "re-inforcements" from Russia had indeed entered S. Ossetian territory by 7 August, before the final Georgian assault. Eye-witness accounts from several Russian military personnel have unwittingly revealed information attained on the ground from that period which heavily suggests that detachments had moved through the Roki tunnel BEFORE the shelling of Tskhinvali.
I suspect also that part of the reason for the US's tough rhetoric is that they know fine well from their own covert reconnaissance of the region certain details which rather complicate the received wisdom that Georgia simply carried out an unprovoked assault.
David September 19, 2008, 01:16: Condalessa Rice is now saying that Russia invaded Georgia on 07/08/08 - I think she must get her dates right as it was 08/08/08 that Georgia invade South Osettia killing UN Peacekeepers and innocent civilians. It was 24 - 48 hrs prior to this invasions that Russia went to the UN for help and was snubbed. She does not mention this.

Instead of shouting the odds, wagging fingers and accussing Russia of wrongful doings Rice must take a back seat, refresh herself and discuss matters with Russia on an even keel.

I would still love to know how she is able to sleep at night when it has been America's money that killed innocent men women and children whilst in their sleep.

Georgia started this cruel attack and felt the consequences. In my opinion Russia has been too good for Georgia. They should have bombed everything the same way Israel bombed Lebanon some time ago, use the same amount of airstrikes even on the capital. Russia just didn't invade Georgia. Russia went to rescue thos innocent people who were being slaughtered by the Georgians. By the way, Georgian troops also slaughtered unarmed UN Peacekeepers.
It is not a case of Russia throwing its toys out of its pram. Russia went to the UN for help but was snubbed and as a result had to act.
It has been the likes of Georgia, US and England who have been acting childish in the hopes that theiur actions will hide problems they are experiencing at home.
Keep in mind that the truth is now slowly starting to surface with the current investigation going on by outside agencies.

I feel sorry for Georgians that they lost 2 pieces of their land but they have to blame Saakashvilli, everything could go another way till 7th October.
