GET IT OFF YOUR CHEST - How do you think the extension of the UN peacekeeping mission will influence the Georgia-Abkhazia conflict?

- Why on earth would I mind RT reporting on Georgia?? I'm puzzled. My "joke" reflected the number of discussion topics opened on that subject, however.

- By your joke Sevo i take it you dont like RT reporting on Georgia. Why not?after all it is not a local news agency.
Point of correction about Transnistria. Russia has NOT recognised it as an independent state,But does support their independence as it does for Abkhazia and south ossetia.Russia does however have troops there. But no offical status. My first post stands as it is.

- Hello Georgia T... sorry Russia Today.
Of course it is a good thing, although the presence of Russian "peace keepers" in the region remains a source of aggravation. As long as the UN maintains an even hand, however, then this shouldn't matter. It's to Georgia's credit that they tolerate this situation when other countries I could mention won't hear of any interference in their "internal affairs"
It's got to be good news for Abkhazia that Okruashvili has left the scene, as he was one of the most fervent of the "lets bomb 'em" brigade.
On the other countries mentioned by Sam, worth noting that Russia already recognises Transnistria as independent, but that hasn't encouraged anyone else to do the same, so I don't see that that has anything to do with it.

- Not at all. The stalemate will continue until someone does something stupid as bypassing the UN and recognising Kosovo (the test case)as independent. That is what Abkhazia,South Ossetia and Transnistria if not more regions are waiting for. Then Russia will have a free hand to recognise those states unilaterally too.It seems governments in the west do not see a broader picture in world affairs. Those states are in the same shoes as Kosovo.Russia on the other hand does, they cannt recognise those states without betraying Serbia. In short, If Serbia's territory goes, so will Georgia's and Moldova's Too.Or maybe the western governments do see the broader picture and its a matter of their own interests,Just a fast way of getting their troops home and what happens happens
