what right has the uk government to tell Russia to alter its constitution regarding the extradition of Lucovoy. when the russian judiciary request the extradition of Berosovsky and Zakaev the reason the uk gives is that they will not get a fair trial again what arrogance from the uk governmentWith the right wing press in the UK baying for Lucovoys head I very much doubt whether he would get a totally fair trial here in the Uk. If the Uk prosecution service has suh a strong case give the evidence to the Russian Judiciary and put him on trial in Russia congratulation on much improved web site

Starovoytova was killed for money by her political assistant.

Lugovoy is a very bad guy and ex-friend of Berezovsky. But even if he kills even half of London he must not be extradited until UK sends Berezovsky to Russian court.

How many criminals did UK extradited to Russia?

Where is all the proof for the case? How somebody can believe just your words after the cheat with Iraqi mass destruction weapons?

If you decide to make a great collection of criminals in London, you should feel by your own skins all the pleasure of being in the honoured company.

I think the UK's political actions should be challenged now and then. The UK enjoy giving political asylum to numerous individuals without even checking their criminal record and take everything they say for word. I feel that if they had not accepted Berezovsky and Zakaev, we may not have had a Litvinenko murder case today.

Alice, please get out of wonderland! How can British people consider Russian traitors who practically lived all their life in Russia now as "British citizens"?? Britain should never have given these people asylum or even citizenship! Why did they do it anyway knowing it was offending to the Russian people? For ordinary Russian people it is extremely difficult or even impossible to get the British citizenship, they can hardly get a holiday visa!! But runaway criminals and traitors get it instantly! So now they bear the consequenses for their idiotic mistakes!

A response to Alice. If a british citizen was murdered in Russia, I beleive there would have been similar complications we observe today. However, it was britain's choice to accept those individuals like Zakayev and Berezovsky without checking their criminal record. Did they blindly beleive that those two are poor innocent politically suppressed people suffering from lack of democracy? I really dont think so. Perhaps, if the UK did not grant them asylum, we wouldnt have had this Litvinenko murder case today!

There was a brilliant piece in the Moscow Times some months ago, the effect of which is that in Russia people are rarely tried for the crimes they have actually committed and that the punishment rarely accords with the crime with which they have been charged. Russia has been testing, unchecked, its political and economic muscle against the West (I include the Baltic states) for a couple of years or so. Russia was, with respect, overdue for a diplomatic and very gentle warning, that throwing The Russian teddy bear out of the cot almost on a daily basis, whilst impressing domestically was viewed less charitably abroad. The Uk enjoys sufficient international status and economic power to deliver that warning effectively.

1. Mention was made that Russia has flouted its own constitution by extraditing its own citizens to Kazakhstan and elsewhere in the past? Could Russia Today please tell us more. If this is true, then Russia has no leg to stand on re its constitution etc.

2. Britain has to show some gumption in the face of one of its citizens being murdered in London. What would Russia do, if the roles were reversed and a British citizen murdered a Russian in the same way in Moscow?

3. I agree that if Lugavoi is to be extradited then Berezovsky or Zakayev should be swapped.

Whisper - I think you had better wake up and live in the real world not one of make believe.
Wake up - it is most unfortunate that it is people like you that has supported regimes around the world that has created the unstable society in which we now live.
The Russian people are doing a damn good job.

Europeans are waking up from the coma, they don't blindly believe all the lies and bull**** which is mentioned on our European media! In this case, the English are being ridiculously stupid and injust! Russia must change their constitution in order to "cooperate" with English justice! This sounds like a lousy joke, especially taking in mind the fact England has refused to extradite 21 Russian criminals over these years!! Dear Mr.Brown, do you really think we Europeans are so stupid? Welcome to the new century, things have changed and will change even more!

britain does not dictate to the world.it has been in the forefront for freedom of individuals, but not if it undermines the right to go about you business lawfully and to keep your own private rights to life and living the way you want.
there seems to be a far bit of jigoism in russia...mother state cannot be wrong....?
britian has a chequered history..scotland ..ireland etc..but we learn from our mistakes..and put right.

brits do not trust germany, never have and never will, they were responsible for two devastating wars and we will never forget..even though we are in the eu ...we will never hand over real power to the eu..especially defence and money and tax matters.

the accusations of the russian millionare have been confirmed by scotland yard...the accused was handed over to immigration and he was deported back to russia..!
some questions remain on this on..

why was he deported ?
why wasn't he charged and held and took to court?
did he have diplomatic immmunity ?
why wasn't it mentioned on your news program?

we brits try to be fair with other people and cultures and this get thrown continously in our face..radicals terrorists etc..abound and we try and separate the good from the bad..
it is a hard task...russia is still new to democracy and has still to find her feet.

Can someone please answer some questions, for me!
Why must Britain dictate to the world?
Why must Britain dictate to Russia to change their Constitution to suit Britain's needs?
Why must Britain harbour criminals wanted in other countries?
Why must Britain refuse to recognise the legal system of Russia?
Just who the **** is British Gvt?
Al       July 18, 2007, 17:20
I read today that Britain appealed to the EU for help in this case.

Is Britain even a member of the EU? I'm not so sure. I do believe that this is a thinly veiled attempt for the British government to look tough and possibly with the help of America to drive a wedge between Europe and Russia.
Richard       July 18, 2007, 17:01
So, Berezovsky now claims he has been a target for assination which has been foiled by the MI5/MI6.
What coincidence, projecting a story of this nature at this time?
What evidence is there to support such a tale of woe? Poor Berezovsky!!
Berezovsky, if you want to dance, go back to Russia and face the music.

I think the relationship between both countries will be affected. Nevertheless, i believe Britain has blundered by expelling the russian diplomats without exhausting all available means to settle differences. British authorities needs to understand that Russia is a very important player in the world and actions like these will prove very ineffective.Russia is a sovereign state with an adopted constitution that needs to be adhered to,and should not bow down to bullying by Britain.Bravo Russian federation, keep it up, Britain need you more than you need it.
Dino from Belgium       July 18, 2007, 03:30
Russia is right, Britain is wrong. This young unexperienced and stupid British government will soon understand it made a dumb hasty decision! Why doesn't Britain extradite the 21 Russian criminals which they gave a dubious asylum and citizenship? Shame on Britain! Are these really the British values??
