Every human is a spy. Curiosity and "intensive investigation" as a unit are among the basic tenets of the mind. This is a wonderful and beneficial thing that does not have to be associated with malice. In today's world, we are surrounded by a "dog- eat- dog" culture, and vital tenets as these have been identified with bitterness, sorrow, and corruption; same is the case for other institutions such as marriage, as some mentioned here.

It's lovely that people are now focusing on isolating the clichees and stereotypes from the actual institutions which were created for the benefit of humankind. Perhaps very soon people will take it a step further and think out how to utilize the faculties in a way that upholds the values that every person needs to survive. For the sake of "love, joy, peace, long suffering (patience), gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance." (fruits of the Great Spirit).."...they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more." -Isaiah 2

I would quote more, but for the sake of brevity and discretion will leave it with those few notes. Perhaps someone will be struck with curiosity enough to do an "intensive investigation" into the deeper meaning.

Sam will keel over in astonishment at me saying this, but he's absolutely right.

"Spying is "never" for security?"
That's a bit of a sweeping statement, isn't it? Of course it isn't always for that reason, and often the security of one nation automatically threatens that of another, especially in times of war.
All countries do it and as far as I can see always will.
The CIA do indeed have an embarrassing history of meddling, but then so do the agencies of many other countries, from MOSSAD to our old friends from the SVR and GRU (still operating at Cold War levels in Britain, it's reassuring to know :-) )

Non-russian...

you're wrong about one thing = the 2 oldest jobs in the world : prostitution (direct or undirect ; since women understood men are stupid enough to believe "no money =no funney , honey !" if women take it directly in the form of cash or by getting married for the wrong reasons...)

dividers = this is the oldest rules of the world : "to keep control , always divide others around you"

spyes and mercenary are only following ;-)

Sam ...

you're partly wrong = spying is NEVER for state security , the CIA has the world biggest budget of the world , it has never meant any extra security for US citizens ... but on the contrary , in reaction to political killings and interfering with others nations "way of things" , it brought them discomfort , mistrust and anger ...! (it works with any "special" services)
you never thought about the why , not so long ago , the state department were giving the advice to US citizens travelling abroad to pretend to be canadian if asked ?? = 2 reasons 1° the bush politic did not push others nations to "love" americans 2° to push americans to believe everybody is against them and to keep the fear justifying this politic ...

No spying will NEVER end. Spying along with prostitution and mercenary are the oldest professions.

Spying is vital for state security.
Allies even keep an eye on each other.
Am sure CIA are not telling the british about all their operatives in the UK and nor are the british.More even countries that dont trust each other.
It will never end

Not as long as there are inflated egos and imaginary/REAL threats to national/Regional security!

The greatest impetus to Spy games and networks are leaders’ recognition that countries inimical to it are planning to remove them from office and/or that budding POWER PLAYS have to be nipped in the bud!
