UK uncovers WW2 history fraud
A series of documents, used by a British historian to reveal WW2 'secrets', have been exposed as fakes. The Guardian says that Martin Allen used the documents in 3 books to make sensational claims, including that the Duke of Windsor leaked intelligence to the Nazis to help them conquer France.
Allen had cited 29 documents stored in the National Archives, which has now revealed that they were fakes, planted between 2000 and 2005.
The forged 'evidence' was said to be amateurish, with a laser printer used for some of the work.
Allen is unlikely to be charged with any offences, partly because of his failing health.
The National Archives have overhauled its security after the fraud was unearthed.
