15,000 years later: caveman’s drawings get Moscow debut

Drawings by a caveman that are believed to be 15,000 years old have gone on display in Moscow for the first time. The State Darwin Museum is showing the work which was discovered in 19th century Spain.

The cave paintings, mostly of animals, are of great scientific value as they provide knowledge of creatures that no longer exist.

“He had some image which he completed with many details, to make the animal more recognisable,” said Andrey Shapovalov, the exhibition's curator. “The more details he drew, the more knowledge we can get from it now."

Many of the paintings are accompanied with stuffed animals and skeletons, to illustrate the artist’s creative abilities.

The exhibition will run until the end of November.
