Faces of Russia Today

Ann Smith

Ann has been a news and features correspondent for Russia Today since early 2007, covering breaking news and social and political stories for the channel across Russia and Europe.

She was the first international TV journalist on the streets of Tallinn during the Estonian riots in May, providing live updates from the capital’s streets and in-depth coverage of the aftermath.

In Moscow, Ann was there reacting to the death of Boris Yeltsin, Russia’s first democratically elected President, reporting on his funeral to a global audience.

Away from the Russian capital, Ann was also live at the scene in Siberia following one of Russia’s worst mining disasters.

Ann has also bravely gone where few reporters have dared – swimming in icy Russian waters for a story on its health benefits.

Before joining Russia Today, Ann worked for 4 years in England as an ITV regional reporter and presenter, after working for BBC local Radio in her home county, Essex.

Ann started out on the path to TV news following an English Literature degree at York University, and a post-graduate diploma in Broadcast Journalism from City University in London.  She speaks French and German.

When not working, Ann enjoys rowing, playing tennis and travelling, which she has done extensively.   She also likes to relax with friends, eat good food and savour a nice chilled glass of white wine!
