Richard van Poortvliet
Richard van Poortvliet is a sport presenter at Russia Today
Richard’s first forays into journalism were whilst still at school, working weekends for a local radio station as a sports reporter in Norwich.
Believing the streets of London were paved with gold, he enrolled on a degree course at the University Collage of London to study Russian and History.
While perhaps not finding gold, he did find Russia, and spent a year abroad working for a newspaper in St. Petersburg.
He is interested in all sports, from Biathlon to Volleyball, while for his troubles supports Norwich City. Since at Russia Today, he has managed to interview a number of stars from the sporting world, ranging from Carlos Alberto Parreira to Pavel Bure.
Other interests include music – he wrote his dissertation on the Leningrad Rock Club, which featured rock music in the Soviet Union during the 1980’s; cooking and animals.
Richard has lived in Russia for around 3 years. He speaks fluent Russian.
