Karina Melikyan
Karina Melikyan is one of the channel’s most experienced journalists, having covered news events in the Soviet Union and later in Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States for a range of news organisations.
Since joining Russia Today, Melikyan has covered the Asian Pacific Economic Forum in South Korea in November 2005 and reported live on the Russian President’ visit to the Czech Republic, where Vladimir Putin took moral responsibility for the 1968 Soviet-led invasion of Czechoslovakia.
She reported on the 100th anniversary of Russia’s State Duma in St.Petersburg and the meeting of Finance Ministers from the Group of Eight leading industrial nations (G8) held in June 2006 in Saint Petersburg.
Her long-time interest in covering ethnic conflicts led her to the disputed enclave of Nagorno Karabakh, from where she did a series of insightful stories on one of the many frozen conflicts of the former Soviet Union.
Melikyan is an Emmy Award winner for News and the Documentary for the ABC NEWS Nightline story “The Anatomy of Beslan”, devoted to the infamous school siege in September 2004.
