“Gambling spots likely to come back”

Published 01 July, 2009, 15:38

A new ban has come into force, ordering casinos in the country to shut down. But Dmitry Babich from Russia Profile magazine believes gambling spots can make a comeback in a while.

Gambling will now be restricted to four far-flung special zones which are still under construction. However, the expert is skeptical about the idea:

“My understanding is that, as some time passes, we’ll see certain gambling spots not just somewhere in the Far East or in the South, but closer to Moscow. I don’t see how in a market economy where addictions are part of the driving force of it, things like casinos can disappear completely. Though the harm produced by the gambling industry has been great.”
