This was the German’s third pole of the season.

On his way to Saturday’s success, Vettel edged out Brawn GP's Rubens Barrichello, and Red Bull teammate Mark Webber, who will start from second and third respectively in Sunday's race.

The Championship’s outright leader, Jenson Button, had his worst qualifying session of the season, as he managed to finish sixth. While defending F1 champion, Lewis Hamilton of McLaren, who won last year's race, failed to get out of the first qualifying session and will start at the back in 19th.
