Race is on to deal with risks that threaten Earth – space expert

There is a space race going on, says space expert James Oberg. “The race is to find out and develop the capabilities to intervene with hazards to us, to our civilization, and to our planet beyond the Earth,” he added.

As for races between countries, space flight is something that the ‘big boys’ do. “It is the prestige activity, that’s why China is primarily doing it. It solidifies their status as a new arrival as one of the big powers,” he added.
