Hiddink move ‘ludicrous’ – Russian Football Union

Guus Hiddink will remain Russia’s national football team coach, said the Russian Football Union. This follows reports that the Flying Dutchman may be replaced by Dick Advocaat and stay with FC Chelsea.

The British newspaper Daily Mail claimed Chelsea’s owner Roman Abramovich wants Hiddink, who has been acting as the team’s interim coach since February 11, to stay after this season is over.

The billionaire allegedly used his involvement in sponsoring the Russian national football team to push forward the decision. The supposed replacement is Dick Advocaat, the coach of St. Petersburg FC Zenit, which has shown a spectacularly good performance lately.

A spokesperson for the Russian Football Union Andrey Malosolov told RIA Novosti news agency the allegations were ‘ludicrous’. He assured Guus Hiddink will be the coach of the national team at least until his standing contract is over in 2010.

The Dutchman himself has said on several occasions that he has no plans on leaving early.
