Members of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation have agreed to station a large military group in Central Asia. The deployment, aimed at upping safety in the region, will be provided by five members including Russia.

The media have called the group's decision an attempt to create an alliance to counterbalance NATO.

The Collective Security Treaty Organisation brings together seven former Soviet countries.
