Police hunt ex colleague guilty of killing Chechens

Published 14 January, 2008, 16:04

A former Russian police officer convicted of murdering three Chechens has been put on the federal wanted list. Evgeny Khudyakov was tried in absentia in December of kidnapping and killing three building workers in 2003. He was found guilty and sentenced to 17 years in prison.

Khudyakov's accomplice, who was also a Russian police officer, was also tried and will spend 15 years in jail.

The defendants, who had pleaded not guilty, were twice acquitted by juries.  But a Military Panel of the Russian Supreme Court later overturned the acquittals.
