Reports of attack on Iran prove unfounded

Russian media reports of an imminent American attack on Iran have proved unfounded. Russian intelligence sources were cited as saying U.S. forces would launch a pre-emptive strike on Iran's nuclear programme at 4 am on April 6.

The report of the Russian news agency, RIA Novosti, claims the U.S. military has a list of some 20 sites to destroy in an operation code named “Bite”.

Russia's Defence Ministry has dismissed the story as a myth.

But the current diplomatic situation between the United States and the regime in Tehran remains fraught. U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates says he intends to keep all military options open.
