Volvo Ocean Race: ‘Killer Whale’ caught in fisher’s net

Published 04 December, 2008, 14:38

Team Russia has finally finished the second leg of the Volvo Ocean Race – more than three days behind their rivals. The Russian crew became the last of eight boats to arrive in Cochin, India.

Their 20-day journey from South Africa saw them trail the leaders by more than a 100 miles early on in the leg.

Then as they approached the finish line, there were more problems as their Kosatka vessel, translated as Killer Whale, became entangled in a fishing net.

This all leaves Team Russia last in the overall standings, well behind leaders Ericsson Four.

That didn't seem to bother Team Russia's owner and bowman Oleg Zherebtsov though, who with eight legs still to race described himself as extremely happy.
