Blue-blooded music: Romanovs’ compositions unveiled for charity

Music written by members of the last Royal family will sound at Moscow’s Christ the Savior cathedral performed by the Globalis symphonic orchestra at a charitable concert to commemorate the Russian Imperial House.
The occasion for this charitable concert is as fine as it can be – the 150th anniversary of the Russian Musical Society, founded and patronized by the Royal dynasty of Romanovs.
The Romanov Dynasty, which was in service to Russia since the 13th Century, and not only became a tragic part of country’s history but also contributed to the cultural heritage.

The compositions to be performed at the concert are mostly small pieces of saloon music from the second half of the 19th Century – piano pieces or pieces for voice and piano, marches, polkas, songs and romances, the director of the Globalis orchestra, Stanislav Simonov told Utro.ru. Apart from these, a remarkable composition by the Tsar of the Russian Empire, Alexander II – a fantasy on Ukrainian themes titled “Maria” – will be played.
All members of the Royal family were traditionally given a brilliant musical education, which turned into beautiful musical artworks. The orchestra will also present compositions by Grand Duke Konstantin Konstantinovich of Russia and Grand Duchess Aleksandra Iosifovna of Russia.
Incidentally, Grand Duke Konstantin Konstantinovich of Russia was not only a talented musician, but was also known in poetic circles. Many of his poems were turned into romances that are still being performed. Moreover Konstantin Konstantinovich wrote several plays and was also a successful painter.
Stanislav Simonov is convinced that “the music of this dynasty with tragic destiny gives rare insight.”

The charitable concert, in the memory of the Imperial House of Romanovs, aims to draw attention to the spreading of Russian classical music, unveiling unknown music and composers of the 20th Century and informing people about a significant historical Anniversary – the foundation of the Russian Musical Society. Money from the concert will go to charitable purposes – to the “Downside Up” Center, the Tarussky Cardiological Hospital and the Ural Musical College at the Mussorgsky Conservatory.
On October 20, Globalis orchestra will give three performances of the concert. The morning concert is for orphans. The afternoon concert welcomes students and pensioners. And the evening concert will welcome high-ranked officials of the Russian and British diplomatic body and Prince Michael of Kent, a relative of the Romanov family.
