"Love Suicides" hit Moscow

One of the world’s most famous puppet theaters, Japanese Bunraku, has arrived in the Russian capital for a series of first-ever performances at the International Chekhov Theatre Festival.
The Japanese company has brought to Moscow one of its most celebrated plays, by the country’s most famous playwright of the 18th century, Chikamatsu Monzaemon.
“Love Suicides at Sonezaki” is often compared in plot and intensity of emotions to Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.
Bunraku theatre is a fusion of traditions and first-class artistry. It features half life-size puppets wearing lavish costumes and managed by three puppeteers, with no strings attached.
In 2003, UNESCO declared Bunraku, which dates back to the 17th century, a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.
