The Horse whisperer

As the French proverb goes, the horse is the most noble slave of man. But according to artistic director of the equestrian Zingaro Theatre Bartabas – men are the noble slaves of the horse.
His one-of-a-kind performances are a fusion of theatre, circus, dance, music and acrobatic art, where horses play a more important role than human actors.
The theatre was founded by the “choreographer of horses” Bartabas more than 20 years ago and got its name from Bartabas’ first horse Zingaro.
The equestrian art is a means of communication for him. Everything an actor says with his body Bartabas’s horses can say without words.
Bartabas says that he studies horses’ characters like people to figure out which role suits them best. The founder of the Zingaro theatre even says he speaks to his horses, and judging by their performances they do understand him.
Zingaro Theatre will give nine performances in Moscow starting from May 26 as part of the Chekhov festival.
