If your child dreams of becoming a rock star, there is now a place in Russia where those dreams may come true!

On Friday, The first of its kind ‘The Road’, a rock music school for children, has opened in Kazan in the Republic of Tatarstan.

The rock school opened within one of the oldest children’s musical schools of the region. The school's teachers worked on this unusual project, having won the grant of Tatarstan’s Ministry of Culture for developing it. Money is already being spent on necessary instruments and equipment.

Known musician Andrey Makarevich, the soloist of the Russian rock band 'Time Machine,' took part in the solemn opening ceremony, and left his signature on one of the rock school’s guitars.

“I never thought that I woud live to see the moment when rock music will be taught at school. Let us hope that in some years, this school will develop people who will drive rock music from the deadlock, as within the last years nothing new has happened to it. All hopes on you,” he said, addressing the little future musicians.

Makarevich has also suggested that organizers of the project do not concentrate on rock alone, but also teach simply good modern music. “It is possible to teach children everything, the main thing is that they would be interested in it,” the musician says.

The school will choose 40 pupils for the rock music school. Classes will start next autumn.

According to the school’s principal, Airat Yarullin, the training program will require three years. Having completed the course, students will be given diplomas of musical school graduates.

“Teachers with a classical music education will train the pupils. However, they’ll apply modern techniques including on stage skills,” said the school’s principal.

The training course will also include meetings with Russian musicians; master classes will be held on a regular basis and it is planned that the school will cooperate with similar educational institutions abroad.
