The world premiere of the choral symphony written by prodigy composer of Russian origin will take place in the St. Petersburg metro.

The great-great grandson of Konstantine Stanislavsky, Alex Prior was only eight years old when he composed his first symphony. Since then he has been surprising audiences worldwide, including Meryl Streep who kneeled in front of 11-year-old Prior when he sang ‘O Sole Mio’ at the Moscow International Film Festival award ceremony in 2004.

An author of ballets, symphonies and piano concerts, Prior’s new work is called ‘Nevsky Prospect’. Surprisingly, it was decided that its premiere would take place at the metro station of the same name in St. Petersburg.

The concert is scheduled for the night of October 5. Organizers promise that the event won’t affect the functioning of the metro.

According to St. Petersburg’s chairman of culture committee Anton Gubankov, there will be just two hundred guests invited to Alex Prior’s concert because of the security measures in the metro.

All others will be able to hear the symphony of the 16-year-old composer at St. Petersburg’s Philharmonic Hall in November.
