Lavatory Love Story relieved with Oscar nomination

Published 23 January, 2009, 14:12

Only one Russian film has been nominated for an award at the 81st Oscars. ‘Lavatory Love story’ by Konstantin Bronzit will compete with five other movies for the best animated short film of the year.

The black & white cartoon tells the most ordinary of love stories set in most unsuitable surroundings.

A woman working as a cashier at a pay toilet spends her time reading female magazines and dreaming of love. She has no idea that her dreams are about to come true.

The ‘Lavatory Love Story’ has some serious rivals for the world’s most prestigious movie award, including ‘Presto’ by Pixar animation studios.

This is a first Oscar nomination for Konstantin Bronzit. He has directed seven animated films so far, including ‘Alyosha Popovich i Tugarin Zmey’, a feature film that became a big hit in Russian cinemas.
