Stalin’s favourite ballerina dies at 92

The renowned Russian Prima ballerina, Olga Lepeshinskaya, has died in Moscow at the age of 92. She was the star of the Bolshoi theatre for 30 years.

Lepeshinskaya was famous for her vivid portrayals and powerful technique. She danced leading roles in productions such as Sleeping Beauty and The Nutcracker.

The dancer was known as the favourite ballerina of Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin.

After leaving the stage, Lepeshinskaya taught classical ballet both in the Soviet Union and abroad.
