An Egyptian man has claimed he would offer his 20-year-old daughter in marriage to Iraqi journalist Muntazer al-Zaidi, who became enormously popular within the Arab world after he threw his shoes at U.S. President George W. Bush in Baghdad.
“I find nothing more valuable than my daughter to offer to him, and I am prepared to provide her with everything needed for marriage,” Saad Gumaa stated on Thursday.
His daughter, Amal, seems to be happy with the idea: “This is something that would honour me. I would like to live in Iraq, especially if I were attached to this hero,” she commented for Reuters by telephone.
Amal is currently studying in the media faculty at the Minya University in central Egypt.
But there's also an interested rich Palestinian family, who are proposing him one of its daughters along with a good dowry.
Along with wives, on Friday Al-Zeidi has been offered a luxurious limousine as a reward for his action by a businessman from Bahrain.
Zaidi's response to the proposal was not immediately known.
In just ten seconds, Zaidi's footwear became a new footnote in history. His gesture won global attention, especially across the Arab world, where President Bush is widely despised for invading Iraq in 2003 and for his support for Israel.
