Well, that seems to be clear then. There are a lot of Christians out there in mutually hostile factions who all disagree with each other. That has been the case for a long time, of course, and not just about the birthday of their Jesus character.

The unbiased may study all the relevant mythology and usually conclude that the birthdate may be assigned according to personal preference or the point that ones particular faction is attempting to make. This is usual with mythical material and not at all surprising.

> I found all of this to be very interesting. I agree that Dec. 25th is not Jesus' actual day of birth. It is just the day we celebrate. The timing of Christ birth is important for the fulfillment of many old testament prophecies. As someone already suggested, you would need to read the entire Bible to get the entire picture. But as far as the exact date, the Bible doesn't give us that. What is does give us is in Luke 1:26-38 which recounts the sending of the angel Gabriel to the young virgin, Mary, in the sixth month. At that time, the Jews used three separate methods of determining time: the rotation of earth, rotation round the sun and the moon's phases. So their calendar changed based on these thing. Nine months after the 6th month would put His birth sometime around the 1st or 2nd month of the Jewish calendar. Passover marks the Jewish new year according to Exodus 12 with the Feast of Unleavened Bread. The Day of Atonement was given as the 10th day of the seventh month according to Leviticus 16:29-34. The Feast of Tabernacles begins on the 15th day of the 7th month. Jesus could not have been born near these times. I don't know when He was born, but that He was. His birth is just as important to me as His death. Without one the other could not have happened. I've enjoyed everyone's comments, even the snarky ones. I think using astronomy just as the Magi did is pretty cool too. I appreciate the effort that went into coming up with this date. Thanks for your effort.

Whether Jesus was born on December 25th or whenever is not the thing we should focus on. It is the fact that He died on a cruel cross to save us from the consequences our sins. Forget December 25th or any other set day. Worship Him all the time!

As many say the actual date is irrelevant. It was certainly not in 2BC as Herod had been dead for two years by then. The times of celebration were chosen to overcome old pagan festivals, Saturnalia, the winter and Eostra (Easter) the Godess of the spring. The reason for Jesus birth is all that matters God became human for our salvation.

I always wonder why people spend a lot of time on things that do not matter at all, but no time at all on the real things that matter in life. When Jesus was born is not important, but why he was born, which was to save his people from sin. Lets talk about the purpose of his birth which is good news. this is the message we should be putting out there instead of urgueing on when he was born. The good thing is you all believe He was born once in history.

All really great comments and wonderful information. I WOULD like to know the exact day of Christ's birth and death. Yes, I celebrate Him every day through my life, through my words, thoughts and actions. This also celebrates MY LIFE...because that is my purpose...to know, experience, understand and share the Christ Life and Power. I love life everyday, but my Birthday is the most special of days...the day that I was brought forth into my body, the day I began as I know myself now. I believe that if we could get all the information straight, ie, calenders, timing, the sky, etc...it would be a Mystery Solved...and we are Promised!!!....that the mysteries Will Be Revealed. Keep Trying to get it right!!! And, sincerest gratitude for your undertaking of this. It can't be easy with so many arguing and yelling at you. My heart upholds you before Him and in Him, that you will know, with no uncertaintly, and be able to share it with the rest of us who await the news.
I'll be anxiously awaiting the final date, so I can plan the celebrations for myself and loved ones.

The Bible, which is the only inspired book in the universe, doesn't tell us the time of year Jesus was born. Anything else written on this topic is only speculation. Also, if you are interested in being accurate, the Bible doesn't tell us there were THREE wise men nor did they visit Jesus in Bethlehem at the stable as this article stated. The Shepherds were there but the Wise men went to Jerusalem to see Jesus at his HOUSE. (Matt. 2:11)

Your theory is somewhat correct but it is a little inaccurate Jesus was born during the spring equinox when all the planets are aligned with the sun creating what people call the stairway to heaven. the spring equinox was in april on easter for the bible claims that he came and left on the same day. Furthermore, God has left us the resources to know him and his plan so their is no reason that we can not know the truth. im not saying to believe me in the sense that i am right but just look at my opinion as an option and find out for yourselves before you claim if it is wrong or not.

Wow, it seem a big controversy, I opinion would be not to worry about when he was born because we all have different timelines and calenders. There are many holidays for different types of religions. We chose December 25th to celebrate his birth. I think that is a great month to pick out, at least where I live it it very cold and we can all snuggle up and discuss as a family about Jesus and his wonderful love. That is worth dicussing. It's my opinion that my GOD is able to create a star right here, right now, that needs no explanation as to where it comes from, or even that it is verifiable 10,000 years from now. Standing on the beach looking out over the vest waters or st airing up into a night sky is all the proof I need to know there is a GOD. The book of Romans tells us that we are born with a foreknowledge of GOD's existence. It's our free will to choose HIM or not. My question to you is: If you choose to believe, then you have a power greater than yourself to trust in, know your loved, know your best interest is first with HIM, to know there's nothing HE wont forgive you for-over and over, this list goes on and on. But on the other hand, if you choose not to believe in HIM and one day you wake up and HE's here and you find out you were wrong all along, what then?

quoteBeverly

August 16, 2009, 10:59

I believe the Bible - God's Word is the final say...not someone studying astrology...which is also pagan to Godly living. A close reading and study of the feasts proves that Jesus was born in Bethlehem sometime in Sept. or Oct. -By the way, our calendar is not the Jewish calendar - the feast days are set up according to Jewish months. His death was in the spring not His birth. To those who think they had no calendar - the Jews used the Bible as their way of keeping dates and yes they knew exactly when the feasts of Tabernacles, Yom Kppur - the Day of Atonement, Passover, Pentecost, the Feast of Lights, the days of the week, the number of years, etc. They could even tell time. They used the moon and sun also... it is only that Jesus birth record is lost to us. Mary and Joseph had to go to their home town to pay taxes that's why they were in Bethlehem for His birth.
Christmas is a day Christians and many others celebrate the birth of Jesus - not His birthday..[ birth day].

quoteKim

August 10, 2009, 01:55

For one thing, Christmas and Easter are both Pagan holidays. Neither have anything to do with Jesus.... Noone knows when Jesus was born, and another false teaching that is wrong in the statement is that the 3 wise men found Jesus in a stable as a baby, The fact is they fouind Him in his home with His Mother as a small Child. This is in the Bible, KJV..
