What’s up pussycat? Pet returns after 13 years

It was a long-awaited reunion. A Californian couple who had almost lost hope of ever seeing their pet again have finally been reunited with their cat – after a search which lasted 13 years.

George, the cat, disappeared unexpectedly in 1995. Melinda Merman and Frank Walburg did everything they could to find it: they wrote to various local organisations and vet clinics, put posters around their local area and conducted searches – all in vain.

They had all but given up when, in November 2008, he was delivered to their door.

It was revealed that the cat, which by that time had lost nearly half his weight, was picked up by a car park owner, who handed him over to a vet clinic. There, the doctors were able to trace the names of his owners using a chip, implanted under his skin.

According to the happy couple, George is now returning to his old ways. He is eating well and displaying some of the habits he had 13 years ago. Today, just like in 1995, the cat enjoys jumping on walls and chasing sun spots.
