Show us a genuine refugee who's not passed through 15 other safe countries to get here (for the benefits and hand outs) or one that's bought an airline ticket to london because it was 'the only one I could afford, or the first plane out', and the British open their hearts and not infrequently their homes and their wallets.
"Refugees" in current European parlance means "scroungers" who want to settle in another country because it's more comfortable. Ditto "economic migrant"; anyone with enterprise will make more of themselves in a growing country where there are genuine opportunities to create something from virtually nothing than they ever will in a 'post-industrial' country living off hand-outs and low wages.
Refugees from wars and disasters, where people flee across the nearest boarder or to high ground or just sanctuary are another thing entirely - but if you can travel 2000 miles across 10 countries to get to this country you ain't a refugee.
And if you travel 1000 miles overland and then get on an open boat in the hope of landing in another country illegally you ain't a refugee either.
The UN and the other bleeding hearts have only themselves to blame for this state of affairs.
don't blame us just because we've stopped filling your begging bowl.

The UK is seen as a soft touch for many immigrants,and WE ARE, is it any wonder that our NHS, housing and jobless total is getting out of control,when THIS GOVERNMENT allow anyone to enter the country and claim benefits they,in my opinion do not deserve. Why should some one form another county come here and claim,housing , our hard earned taxes,free medical care,free schooling etc.Because they do not want to live in there own country for what ever reason.Yes there are legitimate claims,i except that,but how many are living here, claiming off the tax payer because it is easier live here for free than have to work for a living. I want to see a change in policy,that will only occur with a change of government.All illegal immigrants deported without the rite to appeal. And when they do appeal they use LEGAL AID, paid for by the tax payer. This county is going to the dogs. The sooner we get a change of goverment that sees this the better.

The roads are packed. The schools are full to breaking point. Lines of people in shops and car parks. Poor old England is now reaping the rewards of good old Gordons plan to pack the country full of imigrants to get loads of people spending money and boost the economy. Now we have millions of unemployed and they all want benefits. Another fine mess for England. Cant really think of anything you have done right Gordon (and Tony). Idea !!!! Lets put taxes up again to pay for it all.

Russia has truly changed very little down the years - where are its open borders to take in hordes of 'refugees'? After all, Russia must have some of THE biggest open & underpopulated areas in the world, just begging to be populated by asylum seekers & to hand out benefits & housing!

It's time to bring our Soldiers back from foreign wars and strategically place them around our coastline.
pull up the drawbridge and keep these people out, I'll never give a mainstream politician my vote again especially after this expenses scandal and more so the way New Labour has opened up the door to all and sundry since 1997. The far right will be getting my vote and i make no apologies to anyone for that.

There are no asylum seekers in the UK. they pass through lots of safe countries to get to our island ,why ? is it the food or maybe the weather? nope its the benefits which make them benefit seekers ,and Mr Brown loves them

About time the UK started to get tough with this asylum nonsense, yes there are genuine cases and those should be looked at sympathetically but as has been said on here by others why cross over half the civilised world to land in the UK? answer? mealy mouthed politically correct politicians and do gooders all clamouring over one another to score brownie points by appearing understanding of the suffering of others.

The uk does not have a duty to solve the world's problems, time that the government's of the said countries, usually African or Asian sorted their own problems out.

The problem is that most of these countries where these people are fleeing from are so corrupt that they're not interested in their own people and are quite happy when they flee the country to try to secure a place in the UK scrounging on benefits.


They come to the UK, make no attempt to learn the language, are unemployable but still have their hands out for free benefit, money that people who actually work have to pay for out of their taxes every month.

These people know all about the UK and the lax benefits system that we have here, but they also know that if they say they're being racially discriminated against by the government then they'll have all the do gooders on their side fighting for them.

The world is not a perfect place and instead of fleeing their own countries maybe they should stay where they are and try to help foster change.

I ask this question what right does someone have to come here to the UK from abroad unable to speak hardly a word of English and be entitled to a life on benefits? we as residents of the country as well as being born and bred here earn the right to any benefits that we receive by paying into the system through taxation levied on our wages, these people arrive here contribute nothing to the economy but are happy to take take take.

Why critise the UK which is a small overcrowded country, when there are many stable coutries with smaller populations per square KM who do not take in the amount of refugees the UK has absorbed. TIME for the rest of the world to do their bit!!

Why should we go back to being a 'soft touch'?! If i lived in a war torn country and feared for my safety why cross over several safe countries before landing in England?? I'd be looking for the closest safest spot. And as someone above quite correctly pointed out it is because they know they can abuse our housing and benefits, then bring over all there many hundreds of relatives only taking from our country not putting back into it.

Where i lived is quickly becoming overpopulated with Polish and Ghanaians who either plow into our colleges (on my pound!) or laze around. I suppose i should be lucky we have a few 'workers' amongst them......yes we have a whore house and 3 taxi drivers...2 of which were charged with drug dealing and one charged with exposing himself infront of a 15 year old boy! Yes we welcome people like that with open arms!!!

Good on you England, stop being so afraid of being accused of being racist we aren't! If seekers are that desperate they could stop in many countrys they hop over.

First of all i want to say the UK gov't has greatly mismanaged their immigration department with no border controls of who comes in and who goes out. I know so many of the so called asylum seekers who were never genuine with clear indications that they had in recent past sought visas to visit UK and had their fingerprints taken by their foriegn embassies but when these cons turn up at reporting centres and claim asylum, The gov,t will either grant them asylum within a week or disperse them into the society this not only encourages more cons to follow suit but also people trafficking business. Secondly Africans aren't the only ones seeking asylum in UK, chinese, afghans, Iranians, Turkish and Iraqs constitute the largest number not Africans. Lastly, u bloody British should respect Africans coz when you were in need of food, labour, security e.t.c you ran to us and took everything that could have changed your lives for the better and thi is payback time so shut up.

I once had these ideas thinking that these people come here because they are looking for green pastures but ask 90 % of asylum seekers in the UK,they will tell you they want to go to their home country. Home where??? where countries like our own, the russians, french, Americans have colonised politically , economically and continue to even indulge in malicious practices.of supporting rebel groups like the case of Congo, Pakistan, afghanistan and wellknown invasion of Irak. how many Irakies did we see in Uk before the invasion? why did we invade their country? didnt we consider that by so doing they will be running to safety and come here.? let us be realistic how many dictators have we supported in Africa??? how many people choosen leaders have we kicked out and replaced with our own , who will do what we want them to?billions of pounds we have come for those countries, some of our MPS, Senators, companies are directly envolved in setting and fuelling troubles in these countries the best case study is the Congo. we need to be honest with ourselves and say the truth ,yes i know abuses are there. in the 80s i did not see many of these people here because they had some stability, peace in their countries. let us help them stabilise their countries they will give us some peace.

OH my god,
yes we british are sick and tired of 'asylum stories'.
I have lived in africa on and off for more than 10 years and know how people are able to live and have 'self respect' and work for there daily bread..
Dont insult africans but do stop pretending that asylum seekers are genuine..most of these well educated economic refugees are loaded otherwise how could they afford the huge agent fees(£5,000-10,000) to get here?
Once here they exploit the housing /incapacity/jobseekers benefits, work on the side and send money home to there idle relatives.
Its these people who are exploiting this country not poor or working class africans.
Please BRITISH GOVERNMENT. Lets reform this abusive 'benefit system' it stinks and is rotten to the core.

The asylum rules state clearly that that (a) the 'refugee' has to be in real personal danger, mainly from the authorities, in his/her native country and (b) he/she should seek asylum in the nearest safe country. In the first place, most of the 'refugees' arriving in the UK have never been in real danger from their authorities and are therefore committing a gross deception in attempting to enter the country on false pretenses; and, in the second place, the UK is by no means or measure the first safe country from their various countries of origin (usually Turkey, the Middle east, Africa, etc). They have no business whatever applying here. They are simply dishonest. Why should we allow them to embezzle our resources ?

The more items I read like this the more determined I am to vote BNP. Enough is enough. Our public services just can't cope with the volume any longer. Our pensions are one of the lowest in Europe and our green belts are fast disappearing under the pressure of housing needs. Where is OUR quality of Life? We're sinking fast and successive governments just fiddle ( literally) while England burns.

Close your borders while you can. That is the only answer. It's probably too late for the U.S. Our borders are quite porous. And many in the government are seeking to give all illegal aliens asylum and citizenship so they'll have a new class of impoverished, dependent voters. Close your borders, or fall. Just look at California.
