The capital's catwalks are in the spotlight with Russian Fashion Week in full swing. After a hard day's retail therapy at the city’s designer stores, dedicated followers of fashion are taking in the shows at Moscow's Trade Centre.
Moscow Fashion Week is the biggest event of its kind in Eastern Europe. Around sixty designers from Russia and Eastern Europe are showing their spring and summer collections. And for the first time, Russian names are starting to carry weight in the international fashion industry.
The event dates back to 1994. For the first ten years it focused on the presentation of haute couture collections from Russian designers and leading fashion houses. But after 2003 Fashion Week changed its format, taking place bi-annually (at the end of March and October). As well as high-end products, it also showcases prêt-a-porter clothes.
