Hockey league improves safety after young star’s death

The Continental Hockey League has implemented new safety measures to ensure their players' well-being following the tragic death of young Russian star Aleksey Cherepanov.
The 19-year-old Avangard Omsk player collapsed on the bench during the Hawks match up against Vityaz on October 13. Early medical reports cited ischemia, a heart condition which severely limits the blood flow to vital organs. He later died in hospital.
Two fully-equipped ambulances and a team of doctors, including heart specialists, will now be on standby at every KHL game.
There was no emergency vehicle immediately available during the incident with Cherepanov.
