The Russian edition of Glamour has named Olympic pole vaulting champion, Yelena Isinbayeva, Woman of the Year. The fashion magazine said the winner combined remarkable career success with a sense of style.

Former Destiny's Child member, Kelly Rowland, was among those who travelled to Moscow to pick up her award at the ceremony in the luxury Metropol hotel.  She was named “Rising Foreign Solo Star” of the year.

While the credit crunch is causing women elsewhere to cut back on spending, Russian beauties continue to live life to the max.

Yelena Isinbayeva says, “I spend a lot of money because I like expensive clothes and dresses.”

The 26-year-old was also named “Best European Female Athlete 2008” by the European Athletics Association.

Maria Kravtsova, a TV host said she had just come from America where “the crisis is obviously in the air, and people are depressed”.

“Judging by the large scale of this event, the economic crisis doesn't exist here,” she said.

“But I think in such a gloomy atmosphere one has to celebrate something anyway,” she added.

Sixteen-year-old Kira Plastinina was named "Fashion Designer of the Year’. The daughter of a Russian multi-millionaire, she has won popularity among youngsters with her sporty-style fashion collection and now has more than 40 boutiques around the world.
