The stars and producers of “Quantum of Solace” have visited Moscow to promote the new James Bond movie. They say Russia is a key market for them. The 22nd film starring secret agent 007 gets its Moscow premiere on November 6.
Speaking to the media at the capital’s luxurious Ritz Carlton Hotel, producer Barbara Broccoli said: “We're very honoured to be here and looking forward to the reaction of the Russian public to the film.”
Broccoli was joined by James Bond star Daniel Craig, Ukrainian actress Olga Kurylenko (Camille, Bond’s girlfriend), ‘villain’ Anatole Taubman (Elvis) and director Marc Forster.
“Quantum of Solace” is Craig's second performance as James Bond. It's the sequel to “Casino Royale”, which was his debut as the Agent 007.
“Casino Royale” brought Craig to fame as a more emotional Bond. In “Quantum of Solace” he claims to have added more psychological depth to his character.
“A character that was in conflict with himself, about what he felt about his job and what he felt about his life and where he was going. We've continued that, because I think we all find it very interesting. One of the major themes of ”Quantum of Solace“ is about who to trust and who your friends are,” Craig said.
In the latest installment, Bond seeks revenge for the death of his love from the previous film. But his task is to stop a fake environmentalist from taking control of a water supply in Bolivia.
The director Marc Forster said he was surprised to be invited to make this film. Forster is known for his psychological dramas, such as “Monster’s Ball” and “Finding Neverland”.
He admitted that one of his main inspirations is the celebrated Russian director Andrey Tarkovsky. According to Anatole Taubman, Forster was still staying true to the traditions of intellectual cinema while making a Bond blockbuster.
A Bond film wouldn't be complete without a hot Bond girl. Olga Kurylenko beat 400 other actresses to get the part of Bolivian agent Camille. The 28-year-old Ukrainian had to do a lot of fight training, as she decided to perform most of the stunts herself.
