A British woman spent £10,000 – about $US 17,500 – to hear her moggy miaow again after her pet suffered a throat condition.
Jean Kelly from Buckinghamshire took her beloved cat Cadbury to vet after he suddenly lost his voice. He was diagnosed with a paralysed larynx, which would not allow his vocal cords to work properly, reports the Daily Telegraph newspaper.
The 13-year-old cat required two operations to fix the condition, which cost Kelly some $US 8,500. Intensive care, six days in an oxygen tent and four months nursing care beefed up the bill to $US 17,500.
The insurance company covered some $US10,000 but Kelly had to find
the the rest of the sum herself. She even had to put a planned holiday to Nambia on hold, but she said it was worth it.
She said: “It was never about me – it was about Cadbury and his quality of life. I know he’s not a young cat but I wanted to give him a fighting chance.”
