In the Russian Premier League Spartak Moscow's new boss Michael Laudrup, who will take charge next week, witnessed his side’s defeat to FC Moscow. Meanwhile, Zenit closed the gap with leaders after a comfortable win against Terek, weakened by separation from its Grozny home ground.
FC Moscow 2 Spartak Moscow 1
Spartak took the lead after 15 minutes. Youngster Vladimir Ryzhkov found the net after the FC Moscow failed to deal with a free kick.
But two second-half goals in the space of ten minutes gave FC Moscow the points.
The first came from the spot after Igor Strelkov was brought down, with Hector Bracamonte stepping up to convert. And then it was Spartak, who were guilty of bad defending, allowing Stanislav Ivanov to have a pot-shot from range.
FC Moscow climb to eight’s spot in the table, Spartak stay third.
Terek Grozny 1 Zenit St. Petersburg 4
Meanwhile, Zenit moved to just two points behind Spartak, with a postponed game to play, after a 4:1 thrashing of Terek, who had to play its home match in Makhachkala due to security violations during previous matches in the Chechen capital Grozny.
The visitors took the lead after just 13 minutes, courtesy of Andrey Arshavin – good finish by the Russian International.
They made it two in just 10 minutes. Lika failed to deal with Arshavin's corner – and Krizhinats was left with the simplest of tasks to double his side's lead.
And Zenit were three-up 5 minutes before the half time break through Pogrebnyak. A wonderful back heal by Danni put in Konstantin Zryanov to make it four on 68 minute.
Bendz sealed a consolation for the hosts with 15 minutes to go.
Saturn Moscow region 2 Tom Tomsk 0
The first of Saturn’s second half goals came on 65 minute, when the visitors defender, Stoika put through his own net, making Saturn’s head coach, Jurgen Rober a relived man.
The second was from a Fantastic free-kick from Jan Duritsa. The Slovak international left the Tom goalkeeper with no chance from 30 metres out.
