A British woman who lost her legs in the terrorist attacks on London in July 2005 has completed a 200-mile charity walk on prosthetic limbs, visiting 22 towns and cities in the process. On her way from Leeds to London Gill Hicks was accompanied by her husband Joe Kerr and other participants of the Walktalk project.

Gill was the last person to be saved from the wreckage of the King’s Cross bombing and was twice believed to have died on her way to hospital. She had only a slim chance of survival, but since her recovery she has even learnt to jump on her artificial limbs.

Three years on she undertook a ‘peacekeeping mission’ that she hopes will be ‘a catalyst for bringing people together.’

She was supported by the Muslim community of Beeston in Leeds, where two of the three bombers lived.

Reaching Trafalgar Square the group was greeted by London Deputy Mayor Richard Barnes who said: 'Gill was the inspiration behind all of this and she is an inspiration to all of us.'
