New life springs from Tskhinvali ruins

Published 15 August, 2008, 19:58

A young Ossetian mother had to make a troubled exodus from shelled Tskhinvali to Russia to give birth to her baby. Ironically it was a Georgian doctor who helped her to deliver. Larisa Alburova spent two days in a basement, approaching her full term of pregnancy, when the bombing of Tskhinvali began.

She had to flee to North Ossetia to deliver the baby.

On her way to Russia her car came under attack by rocket grenades, and she was one of the two survivors and had to hide in the ditch till the morning until a truck carried her to Vladikavkaz.

All this a day before she was due to give birth.
