Meet Russia’s most beautiful girl

Twenty-year-old Sofia Larina can claim to be the most beautiful girl in Russia. The Siberian student beat off competition from 62 contenders to represent her country in the Miss World competition.

This year's The Beauty of Russia finals were held in Petrozavodsk in the north-west Karelia region. It’s the first time since it began15 years ago the the contest hasn't been held in Moscow.

Of the original 120 girls chasing the crown, 63 reached the finals.

In a close contest, Ekaterina Kopilova from Tver finished second with Zhanna Vlasievsaja from Kuzbass in third spot.

The pageant's first winner, Maria Kalinina, hosted the event. Her victory in 1988 caused public uproar because she was only 16 at the time.
