Russia's capital has once again been rated the world's most expensive city for expats. In the race to empty foreigners' pockets, Moscow is way ahead of both Tokyo and London.
The rating system – compiled by consultant company Mercer – compares the cost of renting an apartment as well as the price of clothing, transport, and entertainment.
The survey covered 143 cities on 6 continents.
The US's most expensive city, New York, is 40% cheaper than Moscow and seems to offer excellent value. The survey rates the Big Apple as the world’s 22nd most pricey metropolis.
According to the report, the top five most expensive cities to live at are: Moscow, Tokyo, London, Oslo and Seoul.
Inflation in Russia has reached 9 per cent since the beginning of this year and shows no signs of slowing down, means the capital could get ever pricier for visitors from abroad.
