Singers are convinced: you can’t but love operetta because it’s so festive and joyful ad brings bright colours to life. More than 150 years after Jaques Offenbach opened his famous Buff-Parisien Theatre, young Russian operetta performers prove that the genre is living on and is not at all willing to cede its position to its younger relative, the musical.
Around 70 singers took part in the Operetta Land contest in Moscow, performing Strauss, Calman, Legar and Dunaevsky.
And although the jury was quite happy with the level of the participants, they say Russian singers need to go back to the roots of operetta and should perform in its native language, French.
