Siberian mammoths go on show in Taiwan

Two prehistoric woolly mammoths have trekked east from Siberia, and reached Taiwan – in a frozen museum case. For the one-year-old female mammoth named Oymiakon, it was her first trip outside Russia.
The two long-extinct mammals were discovered in the permafrost of Russia's Sakha Republic in 2002 and 2004, where they had lain frozen for over 20,000 years.
The 40-year-old male mammoth, nicknamed Yukagir, was a particularly unique find. He was exceptionally well preserved, along with both of his curved tusks and hairy head.
Taiwan National Democracy Memorial Hall will host the exhibition until November 4.
