A Russian director’s debut film has been singled out for praise at the Cannes Film Festival.
Valeria Gai Germanika’s film, “Everyone will die but me”, won a special mention from judges when it was presented during International Critic’s Week.
But while earning plaudits in the competition for debutant directors, known as the Golden Camera award, it wasn’t enough for Germanika to win.
That honour went to Britain's Steve McQueen who claimed the prize for his film “Hunger”.
The festival’s main award, the Palme d’Or, went to the French feature film “Between the Walls”, directed by Laurent Cantet.
