Dogs perform in revived classics

Published 10 May, 2008, 08:56

A youth theatre in the Russian city of Nizhny Novgorod has held auditions for an adaptation of Mikhail Bulgakov's novel ‘Heart of a Dog’. But those trying out for the lead part were not of the two legged variety.

Ads were put up for dogs to audition for the key role.

The tale is of a stray named Sharik, who turns into human after an experiment.

The theatre offered sausages as a reward for the would-be doggy actors, and tickets to the owners.

Many brought their pets hoping to win them a spot in the limelight.

The director settled on Dueshess, a mutt who a year ago was himself a stray.
