Rattle on a roll in Moscow

As its chief conductor, Sir Simon Rattle is the face of the Berlin Philharmonic. Originally from Liverpool, he now leads one of the world’s most accomplished and prestigious orchestras. Legendary conductors such as Herbert von Karajan and Claudio Abbado are among his predecessors during the orchestra’s 126-year history.
Of working with the current ensemble of the Berlin Philharmonic, Rattle says it’s not hard to motivate himself with such enthusiastic and energetic musicians.
“They’re in good shape – I hope I’m like that when I’m 126,” he added.
Austrian composer Gustav Mahler was his major influence and the main reason he chose to become a composer.
Charismatic and full of energy, Rattle says he enjoys watching concerts given by his fellow conductors. Winner of numerous awards, he’s even been knighted by the Queen of England.
Simon Rattle’s lifelong mission is to bring classical music alive in the 21st century, and he certainly brought the excitement of music to Moscow audiences.
