Soviet artists who helped win WW2

Published 30 April, 2008, 08:40

There was hardly a person in the Soviet Union during WW2 who didn’t see the political cartoons on Hitler, Mussolini, Franco and other fascist leaders by the “Kukryniksy” group of artists. It was largely down to their posters that Soviet soldiers were encouraged to fight.

The artists also witnessed the Nuremberg Trials and made some drawings there.
For the first time ever the whole collection of the team's work has been put on display in public in Moscow.

The exceptional exhibition might also become available to European viewers. The collection owners are negotiating with the Austrian authorities to display the artwork at the Historical Museum in Vienna.
