The legendary Irish band U2 have loads of fans all over the world. But getting tickets to their shows can be a wallet-busting and time consuming business. Now, thanks to cutting edge technology, people can attend a concert in the comfort of the cinema. The first ever 3D film has been released showcasing them performing in South America.

The film ‘U2 3D’ puts viewer within the pulsing energy of a live U2 stadium concert. Marrying innovative digital imagery and 5.1 Surround Sound, it creates an impressive cinematic experience in the first ever rock concert shot in 3D.

“To do that it takes two cameras. And each one is doing a different job,” Peter Anderson, Director of 3D Photography, explained.

One of the reasons why the movie is so ground breaking in the concert-film genre, is the pioneering use of what is called stereoscopic cinema.

Right eye gets the left eye's information. Your brain reconstructs stereoscopic 3D in your head based on two different pieces of information,” David E. Franks, VFX supervisor, said.
