Russia’s tennis team have taken a 2-0 lead in their Fed Cup semifinal with the U.S. It was Anna Chakvetadze who put the hosts ahead beating Vanya King in straight sets in the opening singles at Moscow's Luzhniki arena. The second singles saw Svetlana Kuznetsova eliminating U.S number two, Ahsha Rolle, 6-2 6-1.

It was clear from the start there would be no free ride for Chakvetadze. But she managed the needed break and took the first set to take it 6-4.

The second set wasn't much easier, as a double fault gave King a break, making it 5-5.

But again, Chakvetadze showed character and won 7-5, with no tie-breaks needed.

In another semi final tie Spain leads China 2-0.
