Published 01 April, 2008, 15:36

A criminal case has been launched against a gambler in Russia's Central Kirov region after he failed to declare a big win at a local casino. The unnamed resident scooped over one million roubles, about $US 40,000, on slot machines in March 2006.

According to Russia's Tax Code, he was obliged to pay around $US 6,000 in tax.

He could now be facing up to a year in prison.
