`Russian giant` bids to regain his title

Published 18 March, 2008, 16:16

The Russian giant, Nikolay Valuev, has once again been offered a shot at the big time. On Tuesday it was announced that the Russian boxer will do battle with champion Ruslan Chagaev for the WBA Heavyweight Championship title.

Valuev, 34, at 2.13 metres the tallest boxer in the world, held the belt for two years before Chagaev took it from him last April, winning on points.

The rematch, which has been pencilled in for May 31, is sure to attract a huge crowd.

But it won’t be Don King reaping the benefits. The legendary American promoter was outbid for the bout by German Klaus Peter Kohl.
