Olympic movement won’t recognise Kosovo

Published 14 March, 2008, 15:54

Kosovo may have declared independence, but it seems they won't be appearing in the Olympic Games any time soon. The International Olympic Committee member, Vitaly Smirnov, explained why.

“Kosovo declared independence themselves, however, this hasn't been recognised by the international community, while only a few countries have recognised it's independence from Serbia. This is the main criteria for a country being accepted into the International Olympic Committee, so at the current time, there is no way Kosovo can join,” Vitaly Smirnov said.
